The last few years have been an awesome! We have visited many places in Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri developing relationships with camps and resorts to host future outdoor adventure trips for wounded veterans and their immediate families. We hosted a fantastic weekend trip to Catherine’s Landing, an RVC Outdoor Destination in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 2014, with more to come at that resort. Rafting in 2013. Walked with Carry the Load to help raise awareness for the meaning of Memorial Day the last three years. Worked with the Rockwall Patriot 1/2 Marathon on Memorial Day each year benefiting other veteran groups as well as promoting Higher Peaks. We are constantly looking for adventure destinations and talking with many about the needs that our wounded heroes have when it comes to family and pushing through all types of injuries. I believe we have put Higher Peaks in a position to effectively help many wounded veterans and their immediate families for as long as our services are needed. As 2015 begins we have a lot planned already. Some adventures we have in the works are whitewater rafting in Colorado, two to three weekends in Arkansas, a couple of trips to Oklahoma, as well as several day and weekend trips around North Texas. It’s going to be an exciting next several years.
How to get started: Wounded Vets can go to our Adventure Grants tab and apply to participate in one of our planned trips, be sure to indicate which you are interested in, or apply for an adventure grant and plan your own trip! Drop us a line and let us know if you have some thoughts on what you would like to do for an outdoor experience. Where will you go? Veterans, send us pictures of your family adventures and we may post them. Be sure to tell us when and where too. In the mean time, get outside!
